When Jyn talks about children, Cassian has a very different mental image. In his mind, there's a little girl screaming in a plaza as chaos erupts around her. Then there's Jyn, not giving a damn about weapons or stormtroopers or danger, as she scoops the little girl up and deposits her to safety. He considers that mental image as he takes a tray of chicken out of the oven and puts half over two plates, pouring sauce over them both.
"I think you'll better with children than you expect," he says. Even with the reality of Jyn's compassion set aside, Cassian also thinks that if she decides she wants to succeed at it, then Jyn will. She's that kind of determined and Cassian has a lot of faith in her.
"Just don't ask me to baby-sit any of them because I'll know even less than you think you do." He pauses to kiss the top of her head and then hands Jyn a plate.
